Wilpinjong
Mine from the air - 11 October 2007 (commenced operations
in 2005). This huge open cut mine is still in its infancy
and will extend up and down the valley floor producing up
to 8--10 million tonnes of coal per year. It has an enormous
environmental footprint and there a little signs of rehabilitation
or revegation of the original endangered box woodlands that
were a feature of this valley.
The
Wilpinjong mine abuts the recently approved Moolarben Coal
Mine to the east which links to the existing Ulan Coal Mine
to the west.
Three huge mines on the headwaters of the Goulburn River.
